"After 22 years in Yeoksam, LG Arts Center begins a new chapter at Seoul Botanic Park in Magok."
Designed by world-renowned architect Tadao Ando, the center features the 1,355-seat LG SIGNATURE Hall, a multi-purpose performance space; the U+ Stage, a 365-seat flexible black box theater; and the LG Discovery Lab, which offers AI and science education programs for youth.
The architecture of LG Arts Center Seoul is based on three key design concepts: the Tube, the Gate Arc, and the Step Atrium.
The Tube
The Tube is a 10-meter-high cylindrical passageway that diagonally cuts across the first floor of LG Arts Center Seoul.
It serves as a symbolic connector between the park of Seoul Botanic Garden and the plaza of the LG Arts Center, gently drawing visitors into the space and embodying the theme of connection.
Gate Arc
The Gate Arc is a curved wall inside the lobby of LG Arts Center Seoul that welcomes visitors and guides them into the performance hall.
As audiences pass through the Gate Arc, they are invited into a world of performances that lead them into the unknown, opening the door to new and immersive experiences.
Step Atrium
The Step Atrium is a stairway designed to provide visitors with a simple and intuitive path from the main lobby to the auditorium seating.
Connecting Magoknaru Station underground to the third floor of LG Arts Center Seoul, the atrium guides you upward through a striking vertical space. Along the ascent, twenty flower-inspired art pieces—Meadow by Studio DRIFT—draw the eye and captivate attention.
The Meadow installation at LG Arts Center Seoul reflects the colors of seven native Korean flowers found in the “Hwadam Forest” at Konjiam Resort.
Tadao Ando
Tadao Ando is a world-renowned architect and a recipient of the prestigious Pritzker Architecture Prize. He is widely recognized for popularizing the use of exposed concrete in architecture.
Some of his most iconic works include the Church of the Light, the Chichu Art Museum in Naoshima, Museum SAN, Bonte Museum, and the Yumin Art Nouveau Collection (formerly Genius Loci).
His monumental exposed concrete structures, often paired with expansive glass walls, create striking contrasts and offer visitors a powerful, immersive sense of space.
