Sebosusan: Affordable and Flavorful King Crab Right by Gonjiam IC

Located just off the Gonjiam IC toward Gwangju, Sebosusan is a well-loved seafood spot known for serving delicious snow crab and king crab at surprisingly reasonable prices. Its proximity to the popular Gonjiam Resort makes it an ideal stop after a day on the slopes or a relaxing stay. On our way home from Gonjiam Resort, we dropped by Sebosusan — and indulged in a satisfying crab feast that truly hit the spot.

As soon as you park in the lot right in front of Sebosusan and step out of your car, you’re greeted by rows of water tanks teeming with live snow crabs. It's an impressive sight—and it quickly becomes clear why the restaurant proudly highlights “Direct Wholesale & Retail” on its signage.

Upon entering Sebosusan, you're immediately struck by its spacious and spotless interior. The restaurant offers a variety of seating options, from standard tables and traditional floor seating to private rooms designed to accommodate larger groups. We visited during a weekend lunch hour with a party of eight—four adults and four children—and had made a reservation in advance.

For snow crab, the restaurant recommends about 1 kilogram per adult. Based on that, we were advised that 5 kilograms would be ideal for our group. We selected three large snow crabs and one medium-sized one, totaling 5.5 kilograms. Pricing depends on market rates, and on the day of our visit, the total came to 450,000 KRW (approximately $330 USD).

While waiting for the main course, the table is set with a generous array of side dishes—each one flavorful and thoughtfully prepared, not just filler. The meal begins with a hearty clam soup, accompanied by delicacies like fresh live octopus, assorted Korean-style pancakes (jeon), and seasoned vegetable dishes that truly whet the appetite.

The clam soup in particular stands out—light and refreshing rather than spicy, it pairs beautifully with the rich flavor of snow crab, creating a harmonious balance that enhances the overall dining experience.

Here’s the impressive sight of 5.5 kilograms of snow crab, served across two tables with one platter each. The four crabs are notably large and packed with meat, showcasing their freshness and quality. When you crack open one of the prepared legs, you can see the dense, succulent crab meat inside.

Two of the crab shells were promptly sent to the kitchen to be transformed into flavorful fried rice, promising a delicious finale to the meal.

Even after indulging in the snow crab and the delicious fried rice made from the crab shells, there’s still room for one last must-have: the ramen. The ramen is cooked right in the clam broth, and you can ask for it to be spicier. We requested it spicy, and a fresh pot was brought out filled with bean sprouts, green onions, and chili powder, along with a pack of spicy Jin Ramen.

You cook the ramen yourself on a portable gas burner at the table, adding leftover crab legs and body parts into the pot for extra flavor. Though quite full, the spicy and refreshing ramen helps to cleanse the palate and perfectly rounds off the meal.

My family has always loved snow crab, and we’ve visited many crab specialty restaurants in places like Sokcho, Donghae, and Samcheok. However, SeBo Susan in Gonjiam stood out for its surprisingly affordable prices without compromising on taste. The facilities were clean and comfortable, and every staff member was friendly and quick to respond to our requests, making the whole dining experience truly satisfying.
